Welcome to the category of my blog simply called ‘Healthy Tips.’ Many times, when I write articles for various publications, I need to find sources for the story as seen in Yahoo Shine (click here) or PBS (click here) about staying healthy. I was looking for experts and non-experts to chime in and give their favorite ‘tips’ to help kids and adults lead a healthy lifestyle.
The feedback for various stories was amazing. The sources had some fantastic points of view that could not be ignored, and I thought their opinions should be viewed on the Your Health Journal web site.
So, enjoy my new series, with some ‘great’ insight from some ‘great’ people giving exceptional and educational points of view.

1. Fill half the plate with fresh produce. From asparagus to watermelon, fruits and vegetables contain two of the three ingredients for weight loss: fiber and water (protein is the third). Not only will you lower your risk for all age-related diseases, but you’ll lose weight without feeling hungry.
2. Take a multi: Even if you think you eat right, take a moderate-dose multiple vitamin and mineral anyway. While up to 80% of Americans think they eat pretty well, only one in every 100 of us meet even minimum standards of a balanced diet. To hedge your bets…while you continue to try to eat better, of course…take a multi to fill in the gaps on days when you eat less-than-perfect.
3. Choose foods fortified with DHA: The omega-3 fat, DHA, improves mood and memory, and may even help with weight loss. So, when purchasing milk, eggs, soymilk, yogurt, tortillas, or other foods, select those that are fortified with a sustainable, algae-based DHA. Aim for at least 220 milligrams of DHA a day.

I do indeed have memory loss problems, & at the age of 76, I am aware of certain changes. Such as not being able to remember the name of an actor, or some one from my youth, or the name of a movie or movie star. My short term memory can be with in a 30 second time span! That is upsetting! But my biggest concern is that I can’t concentrate any more. I love to read – and yet I can’t stay on one track while reading a book , for example. I also am aware oh how poor my spelling has become. (As well as proper sentence structure) Is there any thing I can do to help this? I do cross word puzzles almost daily to try to keep me on track – but I know that is not enough. Any vitamin or foods that might help me?
some very good advice…thank you!
@joy … First I would tell your GP about your concerns. There are certain minor conditions that can cause memory loss or concentration difficulty that can be rectified with the right supplement ( only if you’re deficient ). Otherwise it sounds like you’re doing a good job at keeping mentally fit.On the article, good tips! Number 2 about multivitamin supplementation is controversial. There’s scientific data that are starting to say it may not be as beneficial as originally thought and could possibly cause more harm than good. However, I definitely agree with omega 3 supplementation… Not many people get enough through diet alone.
I love your blog.. very nice colors & theme. Did you create this website
yourself or did you hire someone to do it for you? Plz respond as I’m looking to construct my own blog and would like to know where u got this from. appreciate it
