Today’s Guest – G. Brian Benson

1. Your name, title, and age? What do you do (or did you do) for a living?

G. Brian Benson. I am an Author, Actor and Filmmaker

2. Who was the person that inspired you as a child to eat healthy and stay fit? What was their relationship to you?

I would have to say it was a combination of my parents and some of my early sports heroes.

3. What did they do to inspire you?

My mom always made sure that we had nice, balanced healthy meals which included the 4 food groups. In regards to the healthy and fit aspect…I was very active. I was always playing some sport or baseball after school with my friends.

My father was a good athlete and he got me started playing most all of the popular sports at a young age. Little league baseball, flag football, YMCA basketball, as well as golf and tennis. We attended a lot of sporting events (Oregon State basketball and football, Portland Trailblazer basketball) so I got to see great athletes in action. I worshiped Blazer players. I also had a love affair with baseball and it’s history. As a young kid I used to write to now long dead old timers (Satchel Paige, Pee Wee Reese and Hank Greenberg…just to name a few) and receive notes and autographs from them. It was very exciting.

4. How did their lesson change your life?

I think that my active lifestyle as a kid…as well as my balanced diet gave me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone in my early twenties to pursue the sport of triathlon and other endurance events. The lessons also gave me an amazing foundation for the rest of my life.

5. Do you convey their message to kids in your life presently?

healthyheartDefinitely! I convey this message to kids and adults. It is so important to have physical activity and a well balanced diet in our lives today for so many reasons. It wasn’t until about 5 years ago when my first book “Brian’s List – 26 1/2 Easy to Use Ideas on How to Live a Fun, Balanced, Healthy Life!” came through me unexpectedly that I realized how important life balance is for all of us. Physical activity, proper diet, down time, healthy relationships, expressing oneself and getting enough sleep are imperative for a fulfilling life.

6. What would be your main message to children today to lead healthy lifestyles?

I would say get outside and play! Doesn’t matter what…just get outside. Play is so good for not only our health but also good for our soul. Pay attention to what you eat also. Take mental notes on how something makes you feel after you eat it…if it doesn’t give you energy and make you feel good…it’s probably not good for you.

7. Do you have a web site you would like to promote….web address only?
