Healthy Tip # 186

healthywordsI’ve been maintaining healthy daily habits since I was a kid, but I believe it’s never too late to start being proactive about your own well-being. A typical healthy day for me begins with waking after 9 hours of sleep. A good night’s rest is vital to good health. Then, I stretch and hold for 30-seconds (hands high above head, then touch floor), deep breathe for another 30-seconds while being grateful to start another great day. That’s typically followed by 30 sit-ups. I drink a full glass of water, brush teeth, shower, moisturize and make an egg white omelet with veggies, brush teeth and go. Lunch and dinner contain protein to keep my metabolism active. Some favorite foods are wild salmon, hummus, chicken, tuna, spinach with garlic and olive oil, black and Spanish olives, soups. I avoid processed and white foods. I don’t drink soda, coffee or soft drinks. I prefer water throughout the day. I also always have snacks handy at home or on the road. My preference are unsalted almonds, walnuts, steamed veggies or fruit. I make sure to schedule in time daily or nightly to walk an hour, swim or take a fitness class. It’s all habit and keeps my mind sharp enough to make nutritious choices throughout the rest of the day. I end my night with a soothing cup of decaf green tea.
