Welcome to the category of my blog simply called ‘Healthy Tips.’ Many times, when I write articles for various publications, I need to find sources for the story as seen in Yahoo Shine (click here) or PBS (click here) about staying healthy. I was looking for experts and non-experts to chime in and give their favorite ‘tips’ to help kids and adults lead a healthy lifestyle.
The feedback for various stories was amazing. The sources had some fantastic points of view that could not be ignored, and I thought their opinions should be viewed on the Your Health Journal web site.
So, enjoy my new series, with some ‘great’ insight from some ‘great’ people giving exceptional and educational points of view.

Drive less, move more!
Do more walking this year – a simple way the average person can start to burn more calories and get in better shape in 2013. Instead of circling a parking lot indefinitely seeking the closest spot, park in the furthest spot from the door and power walk to the front door. Coffee break? Skip the car, and huff it on your stems to get your morning java fix. Running errands over the weekend, attach a basket to your bike and ride around town getting things done. Errand tip. Move errands where you’re dropping off items to the beginning of your route and pick ups to the end to avoid awkwardly carrying extra stuff. By simply ditching the car for small local trips, you can easily burn an extra 300-400 calories a day, which means losing about 1lb a week, without changing anything else!
