Today’s Guest, Lisa Haupert

As part of the new web series, The Role Model In You — here is the most recent interview. The Role Model In You series discusses how individuals were influenced as a child to lead a healthy lifestyle. It covers who influenced these individuals, the changes they made in their life to be healthy, and the message they would like to convey to the youth of today. Our guests include doctors, soccer stars, Super Bowl champions, NBA players, Olympic gold medalist, entrepreneurs, celebrities, and just regular people looking to share their story. We hope you enjoy it!

1. Your name, title, and age? What do you do (or did you do) for a living?

I am Lisa Haupert, founder of Once and Forever Wellness, I am 55. I am a certified wellness and weight loss coach and was a nurse for over 25 years.

2. Who was the person that inspired you as a child to eat healthy and stay fit? What was their relationship to you?

My maternal grandmother,

3. What did they do to inspire you?

All things in moderation, but consistently doing all of those things: eating a balanced diet high in fruits and veggies, consistent moderate exercise, a regular sleep schedule. And she did the activities that she loved: walking and training her dogs, riding horses, trout fishing in streams, hiking in the mountains. Because she was active throughout her life, in old age she was still able to be active until she was 99 years old. I even remember taking her trail riding in the mountains of Colorado when she was 85 years old.

4. How did their lesson change your life?

I had been overweight or obese my entire life. But there is no question that I learned what my grandmother’s healthy habits could do. When I turned 50 I saw two paths before me – the path of good nutrition and fitness and the path I was on. I chose to switch paths to the one she had taken. With her image in my mind, I healthfully lost over 115 pounds, trained for and ran three half marathons, became certified as a wellness coach, and started a business, Once and Forever Wellness. I now enjoy what I eat, the exercise and activities I do, and reap the benefits of being at a healthy weight and taking in great nutrition.

5. Do you convey their message to kids in your life presently?

Yes. Once and Forever Wellness donates a percentage of profits to Girls on the Run. The goal of Girls on the Run is to unleash confidence through accomplishment in pre-teen girls while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

6. What would be your main message to children today to lead healthy lifestyles?

Experiment with cooking and preparing food from fresh ingredients. Take a tour of a local garden or farm and learn about where your food comes from. Taste one new fruit or vegetable each week. Turn off the T.V., the computer, the games and get outside every day. Experiment with different activities and find the ones that call your name. Ask your parents to get up and go with you.

7. Do you have a web site you would like to promote….web address only?

www.onceandforeverwellness.com

  1. Len, thank you so much for the wonderful work you do, especially with our children. We all need great role models in our lives. It is my hope and dream that the work you and I do will cause others to see that they do have it within themselves to make the changes that will move them toward a health filled and flourishing life.
