Today’s Guest, Claire Pearson

As part of the new web series, The Role Model In You — here is the most recent interview. The Role Model In You series discusses how individuals were influenced as a child to lead a healthy lifestyle. It covers who influenced these individuals, the changes they made in their life to be healthy, and the message they would like to convey to the youth of today. Our guests include doctors, soccer stars, Super Bowl champions, NBA players, Olympic gold medalist, entrepreneurs, celebrities, and just regular people looking to share their story. We hope you enjoy it!

1. Your name, title, and age? What do you do (or did you do) for a living?

Claire Pearson, 38, Weight Loss Consultant

2. Who was the person that inspired you as a child to eat healthy and stay fit? What was their relationship to you?

Theresa Pearson, my mom!

3. What did they do to inspire you?

My mother has always been health conscious and she practices what she preaches. As a child, we always ate balanced home-cooked meals versus the quick fast food or frozen dinners my friends often got.

As a busy working mother of two, I now understand what a commitment that was. She did her Jane Fonda work out videos in our living room. Watching her do those routines really instilled in me the importance of being physically fit.

As an adult, I have watched my now 70 year mother avoid prescription drugs through acupuncture, yoga, herbs, vitamins and portion control. She has grown with the times and been willing to try new things to stay healthy.

4. How did their lesson change your life?

My career is in health and wellness and that is directly linked to her. I have such a strong passion for whole seasonal foods, staying physically active, and natural supplementation over prescriptions when possible that working with clients is second nature. A lot of the lessons I share with clients are lessons I learned through her example. And nothing is more inspiring than hanging out with my mom, who is 32 years older than me, and having someone ask me about my “sister.” If I can look as cute as she does at 70, I will consider myself very lucky! It’s nice to know that I have some control over the aging process 🙂

5. Do you convey their message to kids in your life presently?

Absolutely. We belong to a co-op that brings us farm fresh fruits and vegetables each week. We try our best to eat in season when we are at home and the kids are involved in meal planning to make it more fun. My kids have limits on video games and TV watching because we want them to be outside playing and moving. We take the time to go to parks, take walks, and play sports which is important when you live in the middle of a busy city like Atlanta. City kids don’t go outside and play all day like I did in my suburban neighborhood growing up. Finally, we try to be open to their desires for the fast food they see their friends eat and are always pleased when they choose apple slices or a bun with just cheese.

6. What would be your main message to children today to lead healthy lifestyles?

My mom taught me this and while I’m not terribly religious, I love this quote. The body you were born with is the one God gave you. The body you die with is the one you give you. Choose wisely and honor yourself always!

7. Do you have a web site you would like to promote….web address only?
