From Your Health Journal…..”So, this study suggests that dropping fat from the diet will help you lose weight. Yes, sounds pretty obvious to most of us – – as if you can drop pounds with all types of foods if you can lower your daily intake of calories. But, caution is needed if you give this a try, as you may want to discuss it with your personal physician. A key sentence in the article states, ‘We didn’t consider different types of fat in this study.’ To me, this means just be careful. Remember, some fats are good you, namely the unsaturated fats, which can contribute to good health, having positive effects on your blood pressure and cholesterol. Many unsaturated fats also help insulate the body, protect body organs, help with the transport & absorption of vitamins A,D,E,K, regulate body temperature, and regulate hormonal level. These fats are also great for your neurological system, strengthening the eyes and brain. So, read this article with caution.”

According to a new study, people who opt for low-fat alternatives enjoyed slimmer waistlines and a reduction in their bad cholesterol levels, without any other diet or exercise intervention.

The WHO commissioned research to explore the relationship between fat intake and health indicators such as body fatness, including weight, waist circumference, or body mass index, in addition to blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Researchers from the University of East Anglia’s Norwich Medical School analyzed 33 randomized controlled trials from around the globe, involving more than 73,500 subjects of all ages. They then compared data from those on a reduced fat diet with those who ate according to their regular diet. After at least six months, subjects had their body fat measured.

Subjects who ate a low-fat diet lost an average of 3.5 lbs. While this is a modest amount, the researchers note that this could have broader implications on the population as a whole, leading to reduced rates of obesity and fewer deaths from cancer and diabetes. Also, the subjects weren’t trying to lose weight, just adopt healthier patterns of eating, which means minimal changes in your diet could make lasting changes to your weight.
