Role Model
Michele Howe

As part of my new web series, The Role Model In You, here is my most recent interview. The Role Model In You series discusses how individuals were influenced as a child to lead a healthy lifestyle. It covers who influenced these individuals, the changes they made in their life to be healthy, and the message they would like to convey to the youth of today. Our guests include doctors, soccer stars, Super Bowl champions, NBA players, Olympic gold medalist, entrepreneurs, celebrities, and just regular people looking to share their story. I hope you enjoy it!

1. Your name, title, and age? What do you do (or did you do) for a living?

Michele Howe, author and women’s health writer, 51. I am a book reviewer, columnist and write books for women and their families on healthy lifestyle oriented living.

2. Who was the person that inspired you as a child to eat healthy and stay fit? What was their relationship to you?

My parents inspired me to take care of my body and my mind. They set a wonderful example themselves by working hard and giving their best effort no matter what they were doing. Both of them imparted a terrific work ethic to me and that carried over into every area of my life. Exercise, healthy eating, and other-oriented living.

3. What did they do to inspire you?

My parents consistently stayed diligent to complete whatever goal or task they undertook. They never started something they didn’t finish.

4. How did their lesson change your life?

Their perserveness tought me to never give up no matter how many obstalces I face or how often I fail along the way. They demonstrated that the daily habits we incorporate into our lives direct our future.

5. Do you convey their message to kids in your life presently?

My children are young adults now, but yes, all throughout their growing up years we instilled in them the same principles of developing good healthy living habits that will carry you through those days when you don’t “feel” like staying at the task. I felt it was so important to impart the principle that you don’t rely on feelings to make the right choice (or carry out the best action.)

6. What would be your main message to children today to lead healthy lifestyles?

Take care in choosing your closest friends because you will become who they are and always take on the role of being the influencer and not being influenced. Remember that it is the smallest, simplest choices we make part of every day that will direct our lives and either take us where we want to go or hold us back.

7. Do you have a web site you would like to promote….web address only?
