A role model is someone others respect and look to as a good example. They try to make good decisions, put others first and often imitated by those around them. They “think before they act….not act before they think.” They are the people we want our children to be around, whether it is a teacher, coach or family member. Your Health Journal wanted to highlight some special individuals who are good role models and allow them to share their stories here. Enjoy!

2. Who was the person that inspired you as a child to eat healthy and stay fit? What was their relationship to you?
My dad was the person who inspired me as a child to eat healthy and to stay fit. My dad is a pescatarian and is an avid runner and swimmer.
3. What did they do to inspire you?
When I was little I would watch how he took time to take care of his body, his workouts, the things he would eat, and taking time to rest when his body needed it. When I was 10 years old my dad started to advise me on the things I needed to do to be in shape for sports and what I should eat to stay healthy as well as what I should eat to have more energy throughout the day.
4. How did their lessons change your life?
What my dad taught me changed my life because it helped me value my body more. It is the reason why I am 39 years of age and still can run, jump, and play the game of basketball as if I am still 27 years old. Because of his lessons, I became more interested in studying nutrition and recovering methods for your body.
5. Do you convey their message to kids in your life presently?
Yes, I do. It is easier for me to covey the messages to kids when they see me play and then they find out that I am older than what they may have thought.
6. What would be your main message to children today to lead healthy lifestyles?
My main message to children today on leading a healthy lifestyle would be to Take care of your body now and it will treat you right when you get older.
7. Do you have a web site you would like to promote….web address only?
