The Role Model In You
Today’s Guest – Jeffery Hauswirth

1. Your name, title, and age? What do you do (or did you do) for a living?

Jeffery Hauswirth, Author (“What Are You Waiting For? A Beginner’s Guide To Weight Training) and Educator (P.E. Health teacher), 43. I have been teaching for over 15 years.

2. Who was the person that inspired you as a child to eat healthy and stay fit? What was their relationship to you?

I grew up a MAJOR fan of Hulk Hogan. I bought into the “train hard say your prayers and eat your vitamins” early. As the years past, I realize that he got his body illegally (or immorally, however you wish to look at it), but I still believe in the message he preached. I am still a fan of his, as well. I will state that everything I have gotten through fitness in life has bee done naturally, though.

3. What did they do to inspire you?

What didn’t he do? He was the champ. He slammed Andre the Giant. He inspired millions. In my opinion, he was the first real major superstar.

4. How did their lesson change your life?

As I stated, the message he passed was one that I bought into at an early age. I worked out hard, and put my best effort (or what I thought was my best effort) into athletics from a young age.

5. Do you convey their message to kids in your life presently?

In a sense, yes. I do preach to kids (my students) about living healthy, and how to stay that way. I believe that fitness is a 3 pronged approach. It isn’t just the working out, it is also
getting the proper rest and also eating a proper diet. I believe that a MAJOR factor in getting kids to buy into a healthy lifestyle is to lead by example, which I strive to do every day.

6. What would be your main message to children today to lead healthy lifestyles?

The MAIN thing that I push to kids is that what you do today really does effect you down the road. Trying to get kids to see the “big picture” can be difficult, as most kids live in the now, and many want to take a “I will fix it when it happens to me” attitude. It is a daily challenge to open those young eyes up to reality, and I find that only mentioning things once doesn’t work. It is almost a daily hammering of some sort, as far as how to live healthy goes. It is a really great feeling to see a kids eyes open up to it, and start to make a change.

7. Do you have a web site you would like to promote….web addressonly?
