Healthy Tip # 10

Welcome to a new category of my blog simply called ‘Healthy Tips.” Many times, when I write articles for various publications, I need to find sources for the story. Recently, I wrote an article for Yahoo Shine (click here) about keeping kids healthy. I was looking for experts and parents to chime in and give their favorite ‘tips’ to help kids (and their families) lead a healthy lifestyle.

The feedback for the story was amazing. The sources had some fantastic points of view that could not be ignored, and I thought their opinions should be viewed on the Your Health Journal web site.

So, enjoy my new series, with some ‘great’ insight from some ‘great’ people giving exceptional and educational points of view.

Healthy Tip From Maureen Healy

Great topic. My name is Maureen Healy, and I am *Psychology Today* expert (child development), contributor to *PBS* and author of the book, *Growing Happy Kids: How to Foster Inner Confidence, Success and Happiness* (HCI, 2012). This book was blurbed by Dr. Hallowell, Michael Bernard Beckwith and other leading health experts too.

I am brimming with ideas about how to keep your kids healthy, but you asked for “one tip” and I would say the biggest one is getting physical. Every child needs to get involved in daily exercise – I would say “Get Physical” because their physical health sets the stage for so much more. It can be jumping on a trampoline, making a garden patch, organizing the garage for a tag sale or something more obvious like a sports activity like soccer.
