Welcome to the category of my blog simply called ‘Healthy Tips.’ Many times, when I write articles for various publications, I need to find sources for the story as seen in Yahoo Shine (click here) or PBS (click here) about staying healthy. I was looking for experts and non-experts to chime in and give their favorite ‘tips’ to help kids and adults lead a healthy lifestyle.
The feedback for various stories was amazing. The sources had some fantastic points of view that could not be ignored, and I thought their opinions should be viewed on the Your Health Journal web site.
So, enjoy my new series, with some ‘great’ insight from some ‘great’ people giving exceptional and educational points of view.

Parents that exercise with their children are not only teaching them how to live a healthy lifestyle, they are also reinforcing the family bonds and creating wonderful family traditions. It’s also fantastic for super busy parents who wouldn’t get as much exercise as they need without incorporating their kids in the process.
I recommend to my clients some of the following (depending upon the client situation): after dinner walks and/or bike rides, “playing” together after school or dinner – things such as soccer, kickball or whiffle ball are fun and great family exercise, going for family hikes – packing a picnic is an extra bonus, doing an exercise or yoga video together (my kids love doing yoga with me in the morning!).
It is hard for families to exercise together these days, most families are VERY busy with one or both parents working and the kids involved in multiple after-school activities, however, it is possible to fit exercise into the schedule and well worth it as it will create a stronger, healthier family.
