Kale: The Powerful Superfood That Can Protect Your Sight

We all know that living a balanced lifestyle is the key to good health. That means getting plenty of exercise, eating well and keeping our minds and bodies active. But in recent years, the use of digital devices has continued to rise. In moderation, time spent shopping online, reading a book on your tablet or catching up on the latest news on your smartphone does not pose a problem. However, exposure to digital devices for a prolonged period of time can damage your health, and perhaps not surprisingly, it’s your eyesight that’s most likely to pay the price.

The damage caused by blue light

Many people are aware that light can be dangerous, but usually, it’s the light we cannot see that causes us the most harm. For instance, the sun produces UV light, which we all know can be extremely harmful, but it also produces blue light, which is part of the visible light spectrum. Blue light has a very short wavelength. This causes it to scatter when it comes into contact with air molecules and this is the reason the sky looks blue.

However, the sun is not the only source of blue light. It is also produced by digital devices such as computers, smartphones and tablets, and it is this that can damage our eyes. The trouble is that unlike weaker wavelengths of visible light, blue light flickers at a shorter wavelength and it is this action that, over the longer term, can cause retinal damage to the eyes.

The role of lutein and zeaxanthin

The macula in the eye has a yellow pigment which filters out the harmful blue light to protect the eye. However, over-exposure to blue light can damage the macula and lead to a condition called age-related macular degeneration. Lutein and zeaxanthin, which we get from our diet, play a significant part in protecting the macula from this type of damage. In fact, a Harvard study found that people who eat plenty of lutein and zeaxanthin are 40% less likely to suffer from age-related macular degeneration.

How does kale help?

Kale that has been cooked contains the highest amount of lutein and zeaxanthin, with 18.3mg per 100g, of any food type. There are also plenty of other foods that contain high levels of lutein and zeaxanthin, such as eggs, broccoli and garden peas.

Of course, protecting your peepers is not the only part kale can play in your physical health. It’s low in calories, high in fibre and has zero fat. It also has high levels of iron, which aids cell growth and promotes the formation of haemoglobin and enzymes. Then there are the high levels of vitamin K, vitamin A and vitamin C, which are excellent for the immune system, vision and bone health.

How else can you protect against age-related macular degeneration?

Other ways you can help to protect against the risk of age-related macular degeneration include regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking and wearing sunglasses and a hat when you’re out in the sun.

5 Powerful Discipline Tools For Parents

By Deborah Serani, Psy.D.

kidsDiscipline comes from the word disciple, which, in Latin, means to teach. Parenting with discipline teaches children to feel good about themselves, develop self-control and become accountable for their actions. Punishment, on the other hand, focuses on what’s being done wrong instead of what’s being done right – and places the responsibility for behavioral management on the parent instead of encouraging the child to be responsible.

Here are 5 powerful tools every parent should know how to use. Take a look and see how you can incorporate them into your parenting repertoire.

1. Catch your child being good: Giving attention to bad behavior reinforces bad behavior. Resist nagging, reminding, commenting on what your child ISN’T doing. When you focus on good and desirable behavior, however small it might be, you reinforce that positive behavior. Adding the technique where you let others know about your child’s positive behaviors is called The Pony Express – and offers another round of positive reinforcement for your child to experience. You can use The Pony Express in person with others or on the phone. The idea here is for your child to hear you praising her to others. “You know, Jane worked all weekend on her project. All her hard work paid off because the teacher gave her an A.”

Avoid power plays with your child because Tug-of-War will give your rope burn.

2. Drop the rope. Avoid power plays with your child because Tug-of-War will give your rope burn. Remember that your child’s arguing with you or resisting limits is all about control. So if you want this, and he wants that consider dropping the rope . If you don’t and keep this game going, you’ll be pulling and tugging till you’re both overwhelmed. Instead, give your child two choices – leaving the decision to him to make. Remember it takes two to tug the rope. If you drop your end and place the responsibility onto your child, you make him accountable. If he fails, it’s by his own hand. “Listen, before bed, either put all your laundry in the hamper or clean up the dishes in your room.” The implication here is that one of these will be done.

3. Use positive direction. Telling your child what you want, instead of what you don’t want is called positive direction. “Hang your coat up” is different than “Don’t throw your coat on the floor.” Listen to how you’re communicating with your child. Change negative directions to positive ones. You’ll be amazed how differently your child will react. Your child will hear Hang- Coat-Up. Instead of Coat-On-Floor. Using positive direction is like the force in Star Wars. When you make use of it like Ben Kenobi, you direct others to do what you want.

4. Grounding is the technique of restricting freedom of movement, use of technology or social connection for a period of time from your child. Make sure, however, the time fits the crime. Making a time period too long for misbehavior can backfire. And never ground your child on a special occasion. Make sure your words are constructive and not demeaning. “I’m disappointed that you went over the text time limits on the phone bill. You need to get better tracking that. Think about that this weekend while you’re grounded from using your cell phone.” Remember, we want the discipline to teach your child what she needs to learn.

friend5. Understand the benefit of failure. It’s going to be hard, but allowing your child to fail will make him a success. Failure brings discomfort, regret, fear and disappointment – and these can be tremendous tools to teach your child how to self-regulate. Parents often come from a place of good intentions when they micromanage their child’s life, but doing so often prevents children from learning the necessary coping skills to function independently. Instead of nagging about bedtime, allow your child to learn the lesson of being tired the next day. Worried about the upcoming test and your child hasn’t cracked the book open? Let the shame of a poor grade do the talking, not you. Don’t rub the failure in with a snarky comment or an “I told you so.” The point here is not to make you the focus of your child’s anger. Instead, we want him to be angry at his own failure.

Powerful Solution For Your Weight Problem

By Alexander Ivlev

bigpantsA person is considered obese when his or her weight is 20% or more above normal weight. Obesity is a global problem. The main reason why people become overweight is stress and negative thoughts. Good news is you can lose weight easily without diets or pills. You even don’t have to go to Gym. All you need is ….let yourself become relaxed and accept the verbal positive suggestions given to you by your hypnotist while you are in a comfortable state of deep relaxation! Those suggestions will help you lose 3-5 pounds per week effortlessly.

Why can you lose weight with hypnotic techniques? Because the human body has the built-in mechanism for maintaining a healthy weight which is normal weight of a slim person. If you start eating every day healthy food such as fruits and vegetables, seeds, nuts, fish, chicken (you know what healthy food is) instead of heavy and junk food, your body will begin to lose weight gradually.

Usually overweight people can’t lose weight with diets because subconsciously they don’t want to lose weight. Hypnotic techniques for weight loss help easily to eliminate craving for junk food and sugar in one or several sessions. You can become a more selective eater: the more healthy food you eat to more unwanted pounds you lose. Now you know that there is no mystery of hypnosis for weight loss. All power is already within you. Hypnosis is a shortcut to your success!

You hear and see a lot of TV and Radio commercials for weight loss every day:

“Lose weight by eating berries!”, “Lose weight with drugs!”,” Lose weight with special diet!”

You probably never thought about hypnosis as a powerful tool for weight loss. And you don’t see TV commercials for weight loss with hypnosis every day, no doubt.

hypnosisWhy there are no front store signs such as “Hypnosis For Weight Loss” or billboard posters “Lose Weight With Hypnosis!”? Because people have fears about hypnosis, thanks to the movie makers and books writers. Some people even think that hypnosis can do brain damage.

By the way recently I have successfully hypnotized one of my weight loss client who had a brain surgery a year ago. She felt great right after a hypnosis session with me and she lost a lot of weight now without any diet or drugs. I sent a letter-report to her doctor explaining how hypnosis helps to lose weight.

So, the main question you may have is how hypnosis works for weight loss?

Here is my big secret for you my friend: hypnosis doesn’t make you slim, hypnosis only helps to accept positive suggestions to lose weight. As soon as your subconscious mind will accept such suggestions (usually this happens during a hypnosis session) your body will start losing weight gradually. Don’t get me wrong, If I say to you while you are in a trance: “You are losing weight every day, you are getting slim,”- nothing will happen. But if I will give you the suggestions to eat less food and smaller portions, very soon you will notice positive changes in your life.

Did you try many diets? Some other people tried numerous diets, drugs, Gym too. No success. Your willpower is strong, your motivation is high, you do everything to lose weight but all your extra pounds are still there, right?

Will you be surprised if I will tell you that you can’t lose weight because subconsciously you don’t want to lose it? You are surprised now! So, any time when you try to lose it, you self-resist it and as a result you get no results at all. The harder you try the more resistant you become! This is not your fault, this is actually your subconscious mind’s fault because subconscious mind controls and protects your eating habits. Here is my big secret for you: If your eating habits will be changed, you will start losing your extra weight! How to change your eating habits?

Any habit can be changed or even eliminated with special positive suggestions given to a hypnotized person while he or she is in a hypnotic trance state. As soon as your subconscious mind will accept such positive suggestions you will start losing weight naturally. Normally you can’t access your subconscious but with hypnosis it’s easy.

saladplateYou can lose 3-5 pounds per week effortlessly. No any diets, drugs or Gym needed. Your mind can be “re-programmed” to eat healthy food instead of junk food. Your body has a built-in mechanism for weight management. When you start eating healthy food this mechanism will be re-activated that’s why it’s very easy to lose weight with hypnosis.

My 60 years old client Amy asked me to help her eliminate her craving for cookies and ice cream. She ate a lot of sugar and as a result she added 40 pounds extra to her normal weight. Why does she like sugar so much? One of the main reason for eating cookies and ice cream between meals is… a habit to do so! That’s it. The more she tried to stop eating it the more she wanted to eat it!

I explained to Amy that because she had never been hypnotized before, we should do simple exercises that will help her to enter a hypnotic state easily. So we did some very simple exercises and after 10 minutes Amy was ready for hypnosis.

She has entered a very comfortable state of relaxation and felt herself very peaceful and calm during the session. I gave her my positive suggestions for craving elimination while she was in hypnosis and right after the session she became sugar craving free.

In only 2 weeks after hypnosis she has lost 4.5 pounds already and she doesn’t have any craving for cookies and ice cream. Every day Amy eats apples, bananas and dates because she knows that all fruits and vegetables are very healthy food for her body. Amy also knows that her body is losing weight naturally without any effort. She feels great now!
