3 Tips to Stay Energized

By Steve O’Dell

stretchbridgeStaying energized is absolutely critical to living a productive and happy life. That got me wondering… and then researching…

Here are 3 scientifically proven tips I’ve learned over the years that help me stay naturally wired and ready to conquer my day. Carpe Diem!

1 – Exercise – At least a little bit, every day.

You want to feel more energized, well here’s the secret… spend more energy. Seems a little backward, huh. Maybe, but it works and it’s scientifically backed.

Researchers at the University of Georgia studied 36 people that suffered from chronic fatigue by placing them into three research groups. Group 1 completed 20 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise, the equivalent of running uphill, 3 times a week. Group 2 completed 20 minutes of low-intensity aerobic exercise, the equivalent of a leisurely walk, 3 times a week. Group 3 did not exercise. The results? Both groups test experienced increased energy and the control group… well, they didn’t.

2 – Drink Healthy

As we millennials like to say, you are what you eat (or drink). Which means that, when you drink soda all day, you are nothing but an effervescing stew of sugar and artificial flavors. Let’s just forget energy drinks – unless you want to be a pool of chemicals? And what about that angelic brown gasoline that hijacked our mornings? It’s no better, highly caffeinated drinks are like high-interest rate loans on your energy bank account. They provide a short spike, but you need to front the bill eventually.

So what’s the solution? Some high-quality H2O.

We are made of water – literally, 50-60% of our bodies are that polygamous marriage between an Oxygen and two Hydrogens. Stay healthy by following the millennial expression… you are what you drink. In this case, water.

It’s recommended to drink 8, 8-ounce glasses of water each day. Why that amount? Nobody knows. It doesn’t matter, the point – drink water often throughout your day. A funny and practical way to understand your hydration levels – look in the toilet after going to the bathroom. Apple Juice = Dehydrated. Lemon Lime Gatorade = Hydrated.

If you want to get the extra kick without the high-interest rate, try a natural caffeine like matcha green tea. It’s got a light caffeine boost to give you some energy, but instead of the jittery spike, has an amino acid called L-theanine which distributes the caffeine in your blood over 4-6 hours. No more nausea, jitters, or upset-stomach,  just clean and focused energy.

Remember this, Green food and drink = Green Bank Account.

3 – Meditate

yogaposeWant more energy, sit cross-legged in total silence with your eyes shut for at least 10 minutes. This will give you more energy. Surprised? Yeah, me too. The proof is in the science, so let’s take a look.

Researchers at the University of Waterloo found that meditation can increase your energy levels. In the study, there were two groups, a control group that read every day and the experimental group that meditated each day. After each session, the groups followed up with a Profile of Mood State test at 5 and 10 minutes intervals. The experimental group performed better in both follow-up periods. And, in an extra measure of depth, scored higher on executive functioning tests later on as well.

If you’re intrigued, it’s easy to get started… just sit still for 10 minutes without distractions.

In Conclusion

There you have it ladies and gents, by following the tips outlined in this post, you can stay more energized and feel a lot better, too. You’ll be so darn productive that you’ll finally be able to watch that Netflix show your friends have been nagging you about.

This article is courtesy of PRWeb, please share your thoughts below…..

treeIn their latest article, Precision Tree Services addresses 3 ways that trees experience damage and how property owners throughout Skagit and Snohomish County can actively care for their trees.

The frequent wind and rain in the Pacific Northwest makes it critical that property owners know how best to protect their trees from storm and wind damage. In their latest article, Precision Tree Services discusses 3 specific ways trees can suffer damage. In addition, the article also covers 3 ways property owners can maintain their trees to keep them healthy and beautiful.

The first way trees can suffer damage is through stem or trunk failure. The article states that stem failure can occur after a tree has experienced “decay, pest damage, or deep cuts into the tree’s living tissue.” Damage in the tree’s trunk leaves weak spots that will then increase the likelihood of stem failure during storms.

Another way that Precision Tree Services states that trees can experience damage during a storm is when there is root failure in the roots that provide the tree with the most structural stability. The article states that, “If these roots are damaged, diseased, or constrained during the tree’s growth, they will not be able to sufficiently support the tree.”

The article goes on to list the 3 ways homeowners can protect their trees from storm damage. The first way is by monitoring the condition of their trees. The article states that, “This will help to catch tree wounds or decay before it can become a serious problem.”

One of the best ways property owners can maintain the strength and beauty of their trees is by contacting a skilled arborist to analyze the tree and provide the necessary care. Precision Tree Services offers tree removal, trimming, and pruning throughout Everett, Marysville, and Seattle. For more information, visit their website at http://www.precisiontreeservicewa.com.

3 Top Disney Travel Tips For Families

Thank you to PRWeb for supplying this article….please share your thoughts in the comments section below…..

familywalk2One of the best-loved destinations in the world for families is Disneyland, and each and every year thousands flock to the Park and its sister California Adventure for family fun. Jeanette Bunn knows that this year will be no different for the popularity of the park, especially as it begins its 60th anniversary celebrations in May. For those who want to enjoy the Disneyland experience with their families this year, Jeanette Bunn, Travel To Go President, shares some tips for navigating the park and enjoying the trip to the fullest.

1. Give each kid some input: When traveling with a large family, it is important that everyone has a say in what they want to do on the trip. However, families want to avoid arguing during the park day by planning ahead. Jeanette Bunn recommends that families have a list of must visit rides and areas of the park for each family member before entering the park. This will help the family make a plan that will please each member and help everyone have their perfect vacation without disagreeing.

2. Avoid overspending on merchandise: It is always tempting to buy a lot of souvenirs while in the park. However, costs for these items can quickly add up, especially for large families. By buying some new Disney products from stores near home or online before the trip, and then presenting it to kids on the way, families can avoid the high park prices while still getting the kids some Disney merchandise to remember the trip. Parents can also give each kid a budget so that they can pick a fun item that they want to bring home from the park.

3. Dine smart: For those with big families, Jeanette Bunn of Travel To Go knows that it can be inconvenient to deal with crowds during meal times. However, if families are a little flexible and visit the restaurants during irregular meal times, there will be more space for the family to sit together and shorter lines to contend with. However, be sure to pack some snacks for the kids before heading into the park. Granola bars and packs of crackers are good choices that can prevent the family from wanting to spend money on park snacks. Also, never be afraid to leave the park for a couple of hours for a picnic lunch or fast food outside the park to cut down on meal costs.

Planning a Disneyland vacation is always a thrill. When using tips like these from Jeanette Bunn, Travel To Go President, families can easily navigate the park, save money, and ensure that everyone has the Disney vacation that they dreamed of. 3 Ways To Stay Healthy – Anytime, Anywhere

By Kac Young PhD, ND, DCH

saladplateAsk 10 people you meet on the street what the main components of staying healthy are and chances are high they will answer: “diet and exercise.” And they are 2/3 right.

Certainly proper nutrition is key to good and sustainable health. We achieve that by eating fruits, vegetables, only a light touch of meat and we seek our proteins and carbohydrates from sources that are low in saturated fats, salt and sugar. If we use color as a guide and make sure our plate is filled with wildly colorful fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes, we are already on the path to solid nutrition and a wholesome diet for our bodies.

Exercise is an equally important component. The body is made up of organs and muscles. To be in prime working condition those parts must be exercised and challenged. If you don’t use it, you may lose it, especially where the heart muscle is concerned. But that doesn’t mean you have to run long distances or work out for hours in the gym. You can easily incorporate a program of Tai Chi into your life which provides the stretching, extension, discipline and the aerobic components you need for physical health and bodily strength.

stressedwomanThe last component to staying healthy is, believe it or not, relaxation. When you relax and get away from the stressors of your life, you foster good mental health. Take the time to breathe. Maybe incorporating a few yoga poses, or just sitting by yourself for an hour will do wonders for your mind. Use a few minutes of your time to focus on the good things in your life. Those areas that are working and that you are grateful for. If you find relaxation hard, try an acupuncture session or get a Shiatsu massage to relieve those knotted pressure points.

If you start today to incorporate good nutrition, proper exercise and relaxation you will find that your life improves and doesn’t feel so bad after all.

3 Major Health Benefits Of Drinking Alkaline Water We All Must Know

Share Button

waterMore than 70% of human body consists of water. As we grow old, the water content in our body decreases as evidenced by the loss of glow and aging look. Many cosmetics and artificial diets claim to reverse the aging process and give us back the shine of our face, but these products have proven to be unsuccessful. What we actually need is to change our eating and drinking habits by reducing acid producing foods and drinking plenty of alkaline water. As water is the basic need of our body, drinking alkaline water gives us miraculous benefits by maintaining acid-base balance in blood and tissues.

Alkaline water is not a blessing, we are gifted recently. The history of alkaline water begins during 1950s in Japan, since then millions of people have chosen to drink alkaline water for better health and longevity.

Today we’ll talk about three major health benefits, which make alkaline water an essential drink of our daily life:

Maintains Proper Body PH:

A healthy body must have neutral PH of 7, balance of acidity and alkalinity, but our modern dietary habits and eating lifestyles shift it to more acidic level of 6 or even lower making our body susceptible to numerous diseases. Alkaline water saves us by restoring the PH balance. The chemical properties of alkaline water break down acidic compounds to small clusters, which our body easily absorbs.

Keeps Kidneys Healthy:

The alkaline water keeps the kidneys healthy. Healthy kidneys are the key to proper hydration, good blood pressure, and cleansing of wastes from the body. The formation of stones affects the performance of this vital body part. The crystallization of calcium oxalate and urine acid present in our body causes the development of kidney stones. The alkalinity of ionized water doesn’t allow crystallization, enabling human body to detoxify our inner environment, which saves us from kidney stone problem.

Prevents Cancer Development:

The ion water benefits the body with its antioxidant properties by preventing and reducing body weight and fats. By having bawellwaterionizers, you make alkaline water a permanent part of your diet, which will gradually improve the functioning of pancreas, meaning better glucose control and insulin production. The antioxidant drink decreases and prevents oxidation of LDL – harmful – cholesterol. Once oxidized, cholesterol turns into free radicals, which causes inflammation and increases the risk of cancer. Alkaline water, a great antioxidant, eliminates free radicals in our blood, making it impossible for cancer to thrive.

Final Thoughts:

The alkalinity of ionized water helps our body to properly maintain body PH. Water has the biggest share in each cell of our body. Human body system performs well as long as the PH of body fluids is alkaline, i.e. between 7.35 and 7.45. Our modern diets, like dairy products, sugar and red meat, are metabolized to acid. The alkalinity of ionized water retains body PH to its ideal state, which prevents us from several chronic diseases, like cancer, heart disease and weight gain.

FDA Approves 3 New Drugs For Type 2 Diabetes

Share Button

diabetesglucoseFrom Your Health Journal…..”A great article today from Health via HealthDay about the FDA approving new drugs for type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is on the rise in adults and young children. It is also known as adult onset or non-insulin dependent diabetes. But, these names are not used as much anymore, especially since so many children are getting this disease. The article states that all three drugs contain a new active ingredient, alogliptin to help control blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Millions of US citizens have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and many more are unaware they are at high risk. Some groups have a higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes than others. Type 2 diabetes is more common in African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, as well as the aged population. Please visit the Health web site (link provided below) to read the complete article. They have some great articles, and I always like to promote their site.”

From the article…..

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration late Friday approved three new medications to help people battle type 2 diabetes.

All three drugs contain a new active ingredient, alogliptin, either alone or in combination with other, previously approved medications. The newly approved drugs include Nesina (alogliptin), Kazano (alogliptin plus metformin) and Oseni (alogliptin plus pioglitazone), the FDA said in a news release.

“Controlling blood sugar levels is very important in the overall treatment and care of diabetes,” Dr. Mary Parks, director of the Division of Metabolism and Endocrinology Products in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said in the statement. “Alogliptin helps stimulate the release of insulin after a meal, which leads to better blood sugar control.”

More than 24 million people in the United States are currently affected by type 2 diabetes, which is closely linked with obesity. In the type 2 form of the disease, people gradually develop resistance to insulin or fail to produce enough of the hormone, resulting in rising blood sugar levels. That can lead to other health problems, such as heart disease, vision problems and neural or kidney dysfunction.

The FDA urges that the new medications be used in combination with a healthy diet and exercise to help bring diabetes under control. All of the drugs underwent study either as stand-alone products or used alongside standard diabetes medications such as sulfonyureas or insulin.

3 More Minutes To Fight Obesity

Share Button

From Your Health Journal…..”A great article recently by KVUE, an ABC TV affiliate about spending just 3 extra minutes at the dinner table to help lower childhood obesity. Research from the University of Illinois looked at ways lower-income families could help their kids achieve and maintain a healthy weight. They discovered family mealtimes together could be linked to the kid’s weight. The results show that families who have a positive attitude about mealtimes together and consider it an important part of family life, were less likely to have obese or overweight children. Talking and interacting together also seemed to contribute to the children’s healthier weight. These findings are very interesting, as every little contribution to children’s health is important. Please visit the ABC site (link provided below) to read the complete article.”

From the article…..

Could spending three more minutes at the dinner table really help lower childhood obesity? According to a new study published in the journal Economics and Human Biology, more time equals less weight.

Scientists at the University of Illinois looked at ways low-income families could help their kids achieve and maintain a healthy weight. They discovered family mealtimes together could be linked to the kid’s weight.

The study involved 200 family mealtimes. Children who regularly sat down and had their meals with the family were more likely to have a normal weight than those who cut mealtimes short. Even three minutes more at the table had an impact.

“Children whose families engaged with each other over a 20-minute meal four times a week weighed significantly less than kids who left the table after 15 to 17 minutes. Over time, those extra minutes per meal add up and become really powerful,” study author Barbara Fiese, director of the University of Illinois’ Family Resiliency Program, said in a statement.

The findings suggest that families who have a positive attitude about mealtimes together and consider it an important part of family life, were less likely to have obese or overweight children. Behaviors such as talking and interacting together also seemed to contribute to the children’s healthier weight.

Flese noted that teaching low-income families how to make the most of mealtimes together was worthwhile in helping families make the necessary changes needed to combat obesity.

“This is something we can target and teach. It’s much more difficult to change such factors as marital status, maternal education, or neighborhood poverty,” she said.
