Life Lessons From Adults To Children
Today’s Guest – Jim Dailakis

The message I’d convey to the kids today would be to follow their dreams and not ever be discouraged by naysayers. No matter how crazy your dream sounds, no matter how unattainable it may be right now, believe that it’s possible. Do everything in your power to get there but don’t overdo it. I’d let them know that they don’t have to go through what society tells them they have to be. They can be anything they want. In fact, I believe in this so strongly that I’ve actually gone to classrooms and encouraged kids to do whatever it is they love and get good at it. I’m living proof that even earning a living as an entertainer/comedian is possible. I love the responses I get from these wide-eyed kids.

The lesson I learned was to pace myself. I was a very determined individual. I’d go as far as to say that I became obsessed. This actually hindered my goals. I’d also tell them to live their lives even though they’re pursuing a dream. I spent so much time as a teen thinking about where I wanted to be and in such a rush to get there, I forgot about living in the moment.

If I could turn back time, I would’ve started earlier. The dream seed was planted when I was 13 years old. I don’t think I really did anything about it until I was about 17. Time is precious and the most valuable commodity on the planet.

I always say if you love life, then don’t waste time because time is what life is made up of.
